Summer Splash Festival: Two Events In One! Day of Ocean Inspired Family Fun & Environmental Education

Saturday – August 20 Evening Music Headliners: Todd Hannigan, Roger Keiaho, Jessie Siebenberg, and Dave Palmer What better time than summer to celebrate keeping the ocean clean? Join nonprofits Museum of Ventura County and 5 Gyres Institute on Saturday, August 20, in the museum’s pavilion, plaza and galleries, as they present Summer Splash Festival. Professional surfer and environmentalist Mary Osborne will be in attendance to lend her support to the day and evening fundraiser. The daytime community event with activities and food court, is from 11:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., with $5 general admission, free for accompanying children 12 and under. The adult evening from 7:00 – 11:00 p.m. features the music of Todd Hannigan from the Heavy 29s, with Roger Keiaho of Rey Fresco, Jessie Siebenberg, and Dave Palmer. Surf Camp Fun Aug 8-12

We had an amazing group of “Dudes” and “Dudettes” this last week at surfcamp.   Every single one of our students paddles, rode waves and had a blast.  Special thanks to Jersey Mike’s Sandwiches for sponsoring the camp on Friday with great snack packs for the kids. We have one final week of camp left Aug. 15-19. Times & pricing remain the same. $60 per day/ $250 per week, multi-children discounts/group rates available. 2nd Annual Punta Sayulita Surf Classic Results

Another huge turnout of spectators enjoyed a fun filled weekend of festivities in Sayulita, Mexico as some of the top longboard and stand-up paddle (“SUP”) athletes competed in surfing contests and SUP paddle races at the 2nd Annual Punta Sayulita Longboard & Stand-Up Paddle Classic which took place on March 12 -13, 2011. After two days of competition lasting late into Sunday afternoon, Darren Eudaly of Laguna Beach, California, edged out Sayulita resident and 3-time Mexican National Longboard champion, Patricio “Ticho” Gonzalez, to take 1st Place in the Men’s Longboard division by showcasing some incredible nose riding skills. Last year, it was Gonzalez who edged out Eudaly in the finals. On the women’s side, Mary Osborne of Ventura, California successfully defended her women’s longboard title in a tightly contested final which featured top “waterwoman” Candice Appleby of Hawaii and young guns Karina Rozunko and Hallie Rohr from California.
